Rider v Rider Interview: Daniel Ek v. Mario Kaeppeli
You grew up in the same area as some of the best riders like Gigi and Mueller, and some other big mountain riders. Why do you choose to go and send double corks in the park, when you could be shredding some of the best pow of all time?
Obviously it's kinda weird to shred park in such great mountains. I actually started riding pow, but then I got more and more into park riding and pipe.....as we got a good park in Laaz and Davos. That way I always mixed it up, got some pow in the morning and shred the park in the afternoon. I still like to ride park but if there's some good pow, for sure I wanna shred that!
You rolled up to Whistler this year, good times up there. What do you think of sledding around the woods in Canada?
Whistler was sick! First time sledding for me. Got a good crew teaching me, even if it was hard sometimes.....like getting stuck twice kinda sucked haha. But yea, I loved it. It's crazy how far everything is, you go up somewhere and then you just see mountains forever. Really liked to be out there.
What's your top 5 shred spots in the world?
Davos, I grew up there and know the whole mountain. Arlberg is real sick for pow too. Then Mayrhofen and Northstar for park, but when you wanna hit big shit, Whistler BC it is!
If you could learn any trick, whatever you wanted, what would it be?
FS Millerflip to FS 1080....does that make sense?
What's the craziest think you've ever done? Not on a snowboard!
Getting into a fight with my teacher, when I was 12. I don't know, haha sometimes I do crazy but really weird shit.
